a spring spa treatment - One Spa

Impressed!  Bliss!
The end of a four week bout of coughing and sniffling, a sunny spring day and noting my body was tense and flaky was enough for me to decide its time to visit a day spa.  There were a few options within a 30km drive, but it was on discovering that the new RACV Torquay Resort had a day spa with numerous wet treatments and facilities.... so that was that decision made.  I booked and was ready for some nurturing down-time.

The resort itself is quite a busy location featuring the Torquay golf club, accommodation, function rooms, dining and bar options, a gym and 25m lap pool, which is all very enticing for members and locals to visit.  One Spa is the day spa that can be found in six of the eight RACV properties within Victoria.  The One Spa in Torquay is a sanctuary that you enter from along a corridor as you exist the elevator.  And a sanctuary it is. Tall timber walls, timber floors, dark cabinetary, turquoise furnishings, as well as floor to ceiling glass windows with views displaying the stick swinging golf course.  After completing a consultation form, I was escorted away to the communal locker room featuring individual bathrooms where I was to change for my spa treatment.

Then off to the Hammam Bathing area I go.  I love warmth and I love water, so I was looking for to this.  Within this dedicated area, that is only accessible to One Spa guests is a floatation pool – heated to a luke warm temperate and heavily salted.  Spa Pool – salt chlorinated pool with reclining lounges, moulded seats and self-controlled jets. Thermal Stone Room – heated floor, wall and stone seat with additional steam and mister sprays.  Steam Room – higher temperature steam experience to complement the thermal stone room.  Experiential Showers – four x 10 second drench showers set to cool, mild, warm and hot temperatures.  The time here took my mind and body to a level of relaxation that was welcomed by me.

After moving from bathing experience to bathing experience at my leisure, a friendly staff member advised me it was time to retreat in relaxation lounge ready for my hour long Body Glow Exfoliation and Anti-Stress Back, Neck and Shoulder Massage.  In the relaxation room, whilst waiting for my therapist I lazed and replenished with a cup of locally made herbal tea, further enhancing my already ‘oh, I’ve forgotten the outside world’ state of mind.  The six treatment rooms offer varying treatments including a Vichy Shower, Swisse Shower, Hydrotherapy and a private Steam Room.  The body and facial treatments are available for men and women, along with signature treatments and packages for bride/grooms to be and girl or hen’s getaway.

The experience of using fresh sugar combined with warm coconut oil was a first for me and it was relaxing, it was not as harsh as what a salt scrub can sometimes be and it has left my skin hydrated and soft.
Body Glow Exfoliation A full body experience using a fresh sugar scrub, to gently buff away ageing skin cells, polish your skin clean and unclog pores.  Added to this is the deep moisturising richness of a blend of cold pressed virgin coconut oil and exotic nut extracts to nourish and moisturise, leaving you with a healthy glow. ~ One Spa menu

My spa experience was impressive and blissful, not only because of the facilities and treatment but because of the friendly and professional staff and the skillful hands and lovely spoken therapist who gave attention to the pressure, my comfort and explanation along the way.
